On the Annapurna Basecamp (ABC) Trek you pass by villages and then climb through forests into the Annapurna Sanctuary, a valley surrounded by high Himalayan mountains. This trek offers a great opportunity to get into the mountains without the altitude problems of the Everest region.
The route to Annapurna Basecamp is a spectacular, short trek. Although it has some steep climbs and crosses some narrow bridges, it is not difficult.
The trek to Annapurna Basecamp traverses a variety of terrain, from lowland villages with rice terraces to mountains with ice and snow. It offers outstanding views on high mountains. You can make the trek from Pokhara to teh Basecamp and back in 10 days, but it's better to allow two weeks to appreciate the high-altitude scenery.
A sidetrip to Ghorepani on the return route provides a view of Dhaulagiri from Poon Hill.
