The alternative way

Lukla to Gokyo
Duration: about 11-13 days
Lenght: 100km
Max. Elevation: 5350m
Difficulty: medium
Season: October to December and February to May
A high-altitude trek to a valley west of Everest Base Camp. Excellent views of Everest and Cho Oyu, small lodges on the entire route and less crowded than the Base Camp Trek.
Thamserku seen from the Gokyo valley

This trek offers a less crowded alternative to the traditional Everest Base Camp trek. From Gokyo Ri you will have also good views of Mt.Everest like from Kala Pattar, only from a greter distance. The mountains are more spectacular and the Ngozumpa glacier is the largest in the Nepal Himalaya. You can see four 8000m peaks - Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu.

By crossing the 5420 m-high pass Cho La, you can combine this trek with the Base Camp trek. If you don't have the time for that, you can walk back from Gokyo on the other side of the valley, where nerly no tourists are, but also only a few lodges. This route joins the Everest Base Camp trek at Pangboche, so you have the possibility to visit the monasteries there and in Tengboche.

From and to Namche Bazaar, there is only one way for all these treks. So this is the most crowded part on the whole trip.
